‘Basketball Tree’ and ‘Wheels of Fire’ feature main characters who live with a disability: Sam is short-statured and Bec is a wheelchair user.
These are positive and affirming stories about kids today. They also depict the universal experience of people joining together through physical activity (basketball, dance).
Carole Lander is the author. The idea for this children’s fiction came to her when interviewing people for her book LITTLE PEOPLE BIG LIVES. They fill a gap in the literature for young people where few, if any, heroes and heroines live with a disability.
