2010 national convention report
Sunday, 3 October to Saturday, 9 October
Point Walter Recreation and Convention Centre
1 Stock Road, Bicton
http://www.dsr.wa.gov.au/pointwalter
The site is only 20 minutes from the city and five minutes from Fremantle's heritage architecture, fantastic restaurants and hotels.
The centre was built specifically as a recreation and conference centre, so the facilities and programmes fit together perfectly. The stunning views of the Swan River and city, the beauty of the property, the modern and functional accommodation, the swimming pool and the well maintained grounds make Point Walter a magnificent venue. TV and video/DVD facilities are available.
The Point Walter Recreation and Convention Centre is designed to meet disability access standards and the centre includes hard surface paths, ramps, and disabled shower/toilet facilities in all accommodation and meeting room areas.
The accommodation consists of 31 rooms that have a maximum capacity of four beds per room (bunk beds). Some rooms have an additional single bed. Some rooms have ensuites. The rooms to which we will have access will depend on the number of people who attend.
Linen is provided, including sheets, blankets, pillows, pillowcases and towels. The beds are steel bunk beds (2 per room) that conform to Australian standards and mattresses have hospital grade mattress protectors to ensure good hygiene and cleanliness.
Dining: We have contracted catering company Accolade. They will provide great food in a comfortable atmosphere (with a great view). Breakfast, lunch and dinner are supplemented by morning, afternoon tea and supper. Coffee, tea, cordial and fruit are available. Meals are all cooked on site using the freshest ingredients. The catering company also caters for special diets.
You may be required to purchase occasional meals when we are out on our travels. We are still determining these details.
The centre is located on the river cliff escarpment and has magnificent river and city views from its broad acre parkland environment. Parklands surround the centre and include the Point Walter Public Golf Course, the Point Walter Reserve and the Swan River where there are dual use paths for walking and cycling.
Facilities on site include 4.5 hectares of parkland cleared grounds, 2 hectares of natural bush land, 25 metre swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, volleyball court, gazebo and a grassed and terraced amphitheatre.
At this early date it is difficult to let people know exactly what transport arrangements there may be from your arrival point to the convention centre. However, given the restrictions with the time we can access the centre it may be best where possible to organise your arrival to Perth to occur in the afternoon. Otherwise, people may wish to make their way to the city or Fremantle for some sightseeing prior to making their way to the centre. I am sure we can help with luggage storage if needed.
