YMCA Anglesea Recreation
Camp
Cnr Great Ocean Road &
Inverlochy Street
Anglesea Victoria 3260
The YMCA Anglesea Recreation Camp is
situated on the sea side of the famous Great Ocean Road and tucked away in a
beautiful, secluded, natural bush land setting. The Camp is
only 1.5 hours drive from the Melbourne CBD, and is situated on a beautiful
natural bush land property. The Surf Coast location with its spectacular
coastline, scenic rainforests and magnificent beaches; makes it is an ideal
venue for groups to explore sand, sea, surf, bush and mountains. The coastal
environment, surrounding bush land and the many adventure based activities
available on site provide plenty of opportunities for recreation and relaxation.
The Camp website address is:
http://www.camps.ymca.org.au/htm/htm_anglesea.asp
Anglesea is a popular seaside resort:
Located 113 km south
west of Melbourne at the northern end of the Great Ocean Road, Anglesea is an
interesting mixture of an attractive seaside resort town and a piece of urban
sprawl which spreads for about 5 km along the coast. From Point Roadknight in
the south around Soapy Rock to the main surfing beach and Coogoorah Reserve it
is very much a beach resort town.
Accomodation
and facilities:
The YMCA Anglesea Recreation Camp has comfortable heated accommodation available for 146 people. All rooms have bunk beds. Rooms for 2, 4 & 6 people are available, some with en suites. in 4 accommodation blocks.
Bedding: Unfortunately this year there is NO bedding provided at the Convention Centre. This includes pillows, doonas/sleeping bags. We are able to hire a limited amount of pillows & doonas but priority will be given to interstate people for these. We encourage everyone who possibly can to bring their own. All those driving to the Convention PLEASE bring your own and if you have room to bring some extras please do so.
Those who need doonas & pillows note on updated Convention registration form included on the SSPA website.
The linen package for hire includes 2 sheets, 1 pillow case & 1 towel at a cost of $12.
Please state on your Convention registration form if you wish to
share with specific people.
Facilities:
Dining: The YMCA Anglesea Recreation Camp provides great food in a comfortable
atmosphere. Fully cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner is supplemented by morning,
afternoon tea and supper. Coffee, tea, cordial and fruit are available at all
times. Meals are all cooked on site using the freshest ingredients. The YMCA Anglesea Recreation
Camp also caters for special diets.
General information:
Disco theme: This year’s disco will have a “surfie” theme so make sure you throw in your board shorts, sunscreen and sunglasses when packing!
What to bring: Although it will be the first month of spring it will be pretty cold on the Great Ocean Road so pack warm clothes. Also make sure to bring clothes suitable for sports for the beach games and Life Be In It sporting day.
Great Ocean Road: As per the program in the previous journal we will be touring the Great Ocean Road as far as the Otway Ranges National Park and experiencing the Otway Fly.
Unfortunately though, due to distance we will be unable to travel as far as the 12 Apostles and other rock formations. The Convention Committee suggests you allow an extra day or two either prior or after the Convention if you wish to explore these well known sights by yourself.
When: Sunday 20 September – Saturday 26 September 2009.
Arrival time is 3pm onwards on Sunday 20 September. There is another group leaving the YMCA Anglesea Recreation Camp that day so staff need time to clean rooms before our group arrives.
Getting there:
Anglesea is located
113kms south west of Melbourne at the northern end of the Great
Ocean Road.
Arriving by plane: The closest port of arrival is Avalon however
not all airlines operate to Avalon. Jetstar Airlines fly to Avalon
Airport. Other airlines fly into Melbourne (Tullamarine).
Arriving at Tullamarine (Melbourne Airport): Gull Bus Lines operate
a frequent service between Tullamarine and Geelong. Please check out
website link below:
http://www.gull.com.au/?id=aboutgullairportserv
The Convention Committee will organize transport (one shuttle late morning and one in the afternoon) from Avalon Airport & Geelong Railway Station (Gulls drop off point) on Sunday 20th September to bring you to Anglesea. Those people catching the morning shuttle will be taken to Anglesea where you can fill in time exploring the shops or going to the beach until 3pm. Your luggage will be taken to the YMCA Anglesea Recreation Camp.
When making your flight bookings PLEASE consider that Anglesea is quite a distance from both Avalon Airport and Geelong, so if possible please book your return flights for either late morning or afternoon.
