2008 national
convention report

View from Mount Tambourine in the Gold Coast hinterland in Queensland -
venue for the 2008 Convention.
I hope you’re all getting excited about the 2008 National Convention which is fast approaching!!
The Convention site is in the Gold Coast hinterland where there are lovely rainforests, beautiful surrounds and gorgeous views of the coastal areas.
The details for Eagle Heights Centre are as follows:
Address: 168 MacDonnell Rd
Eagle Heights QLD 4271
(near Mount Tamborine)
Phone: (07) 5545 1880
Website:

The itinerary for the convention week can be found below. It includes the Medical Day, day trips to the beach and Surfers Paradise and the Dinner Dance where “we” (those 13 and over) get to dress up to the nine’s and enjoy a scrumptious dinner as well as a dance. You will find quite a lot of “free time” on this year’s itinerary as a result of the feedback received from the 2007 National Convention in Port Macquarie. Feedback asked that we try to incorporate more free time into the convention week as well as some structured activities for children. Free time at conventions is invaluable; it provides the opportunity to have those ‘one on one’ conversations with others faced with similar situations as yourself; whether it be as a person of short stature or as a parent. It will also give you the chance to look around the Hinterland and see more of the Gold Coast, not just the beaches but the surrounding areas of Eagle Heights, including Mount Tamborine, a very lovely little town where the Cottage Industry as well as the Cafes and quaint little Pubs can be found.
The Convention centre is charging adults $440.00 (13 years and over), children $220.00 (12 to 5 years) and $95.00 for (4 and under). These will reflect the prices for registration. We are finalising the budgets and are hoping that National fundraising will subsidise all of our convention activities including the Medical Day, Dinner Dance, day trip and buses for the week and therefore keep the registration cost as per above.
For those who need transport from the airport to Eagle Heights Centre, there are a few bus companies on the Gold Coast which can help you out:
Con-X-ion: (07) 55 569 888 Coachtrans: (07) 33 589 700
If anyone is interested in bringing their caravan, Eagle Heights Centre will be happy for you to set up on their property. The cost for the week will be the same. For those who want to stay in off-site accommodation, there are Motels and Bed & Breakfasts not far from the Eagle Heights Centre. Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries or you could call Judy Gater at the Tamborine Mountain Visitor Centre on 5545 2991.
