2004 sspa
mchugh-henderson award
- sarah bowen
Last September this prestigious award was made to Sarah Bowen for her outstanding performances in the sport of swimming. Sarah was unable to be present at the 2004 Convention to receive her award as she was representing Australia in the Paralympics in Rome.
In March last year in the Australian Open Championships, which are the Olympic trials, Sarah competed in the backstroke, freestyle and breaststroke. Sarah broke the world record in the 50m backstroke heat and again in the final. She also broke the world record in the 50m breaststroke heat and equalled the World Record in the 100m breaststroke. She won gold in the 100m breaststroke, 50m backstroke and silver in the 50m breaststroke.
At the end of the meet Sarah was named in the 2004 Australian Paralympic Team to compete in Athens last September. At the Paralympic Games Sarah came 7th in her backstroke final and won the 100m breaststroke and created a new world record!
